New Yorkers for the Equality Model is a New York-based coalition of cross-sector organizations, sex-trade survivors, and community members who advocate for the Equality Model. New Yorkers for the Equality Model respects your privacy and recognizes the importance of protecting your personal information. We have prepared this Privacy Statement and Cookie Policy (the “Privacy Policy”) to help you understand the information we collect from or about you through this website and how we use, share, and process that information. This Privacy Policy applies to your access and use of our website (equalitymodelny.org), including, but not limited to, our Equality Model statement, donation page, and mailing list sign-up (the “Site”), and is not intended to cover personal information that may be collected offline or through any other website.
Throughout this Privacy Policy, “New Yorkers for the Equality Model,” “us,” “our,” or “we” refers to, collectively, New Yorkers for the Equality Model. “You” or “your” refers to any person using the Site.
By visiting the Site, you consent to our collection, use, and sharing of personal information about you as described in this Privacy Policy.
We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any changes on this page, and update the “Last Updated” date at the top, so be sure to check back periodically to stay aware of any modifications. [We will post a notice of any material changes to this Privacy Policy on our Site.]
INFORMATION WE COLLECT
A. User-Provided Information
New Yorkers for the Equality Model’s online content is free, and you are not required to have an account with us to access this content. We may collect, store, and share certain identifying information from or about you in connection with your use of or submissions through the Site.
We may collect the following personal information directly from you online when you register for our mailing list, donate to our organization, sign petitions, attend events or other activities we offer, follow us on social media, or like, comment, or share our content on social media.
If you contact us directly, we may collect:

the content of your message.
When you register for our mailing list, we collect the contact information you provide to us such as:

-
zip code (optional).
When you sign our Stand with Survivors support statement, we may collect:

the city you reside in;

the state you reside in; and
-
zip code.
During registration for an event, you may also voluntarily provide the following information, which will be combined with the required information:

mailing address or zip code;

telephone number; and
-
company name.
When you make a donation, you must provide the following required information:

first and last name;

email address;
-
mailing address;
-
telephone number (optional); and
-
credit or debit card information.
However, your payment method information (such as credit card information), is collected by our third-party payment processor on our behalf, and this information is not processed or stored by New Yorkers for the Equality Model.
Personal, nonfinancial information related to your donation may be combined with other information related to your donation, including: amount and frequency of donation, and matching gift and other donation details, including name and contact information of individuals for whom a gift is in honor of or in memory of, and may be used for marketing and other purposes.
When you request information on our events or contact us, we may also collect the following information:

Depending on the nature of your interaction with us, the required information above may be combined with the following additional details and may be used for marketing and other purposes.

B. Automatically Collected Information and Tracking
Usage Data
We automatically collect tracking information from all visitors about how they use the Site in order to help us maintain and improve the Site. We use cookies and other technologies to help compile browser statistics, such as log file information (i.e., Internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, browser language, pages viewed, and the date and time of a site visit).
Tracking Data and Cookie Policy
We and third-party partners collect information using cookies, pixel tags, or similar technologies to help improve your experience while using the Site. Cookies are small text files placed on your device to store data that can be recalled by a web server in the domain that placed the cookie.
We do not use cookies for online tracking for advertising.
Some cookies are strictly necessary to access our Site for security purposes. You may instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to allow your browser to alert you when a cookie is set. However, if you do not accept cookies, certain parts of the Site may function differently and not at its full capacity, and you may not be able to use some portions of our Site.
Our Site does not respond to web browser “do not track” signals.

Some cookies are used to help personalize your experience. For example, certain persistent cookies set by Salsa Labs function to help us manage relationships with our Site users by remembering information provided in online donation forms. We also use Google Analytics cookies to help us better understand how the Site is used in order to better serve you and understand how visitors use the Site, including the source and patterns relating to user traffic. Please note that you need to configure each browser on each device that you use if you wish to automatically opt out or block some or all cookies.
HOW WE USE AND SHARE PERSONAL INFORMATION
Uses of Personal Information
We collect and use your information to operate the Site and manage the services you request. This includes coordinating petitions, processing event registrations, processing donations, and registering volunteers. It also includes alerting recipients on our email list of upcoming events, programs, and news so they may stay current on new developments related to New Yorkers for the Equality Model. We may periodically contact you with offers, surveys, donations, and information about our services, your subscription, legal notices, or other important information.
We also work with third parties to analyze your use of the Site, including the time and duration of your use of the Site or other information about your interaction with our online content. This data is used to help us improve the functionality of the Site.
Sharing of Personal Information
We take the privacy of all individuals very seriously. We do not sell your personal information, and only share your personal information in certain situations.
First, New Yorkers for the Equality Model may share your personal information with our partner organizations. For instance, your name and email address may be shared as part of a shared advocacy campaign with a partner organization. The Coalition Against Trafficking in Women, a non-governmental, non-profit 501(c)(3) is a partner and fiscal sponsor that we share donor information with for purposes of tracking and analyzing donations.
Second, New Yorkers for the Equality Model also partners with and hires other companies to provide services on its behalf, such as to help conduct fundraising, relationship and event management, and advocacy activities. In some circumstances, we may directly share your personal information with these service providers, who agree to protect such information. For instance, we outsource the processing of your payment card information to Salsa Labs, which collects such information directly when you make a donation on our Site.
Third, New Yorkers for the Equality Model may share your personal information for legislative support purposes. For instance, campaign supporters’ name and zip code may be shared publicly and with legislators and policy makers in connection with that campaign.
Lastly, we may also share your information in the event that it is necessary for any of the following reasons:

to protect our rights or property or the safety of our employees or others;

to comply with any court order, legal process, or respond to any governmental or regulatory request;

to transfer information in the event of a merger, transfer of assets, or other organizational restructuring; and/or,

to prevent, or take other action regarding actual or suspected illegal or fraudulent activities or potential threats to the physical safety or well-being of any person.
Your Choices Regarding the Personal Information We Collect
We provide certain options to honor your choices concerning our collection, use, or sharing of personal information about you. For example, if you have opted in to receive email communications from us (e.g., newsletters and communications regarding our services) but do not wish to receive further information, you may opt out of receiving such by following the instructions contained in those email messages.
Links to Third-Party Sites
Our Site may contain links to other websites provided by our partner organizations or other third parties, such as social media plug-ins. Please be aware that we do not control these third-party websites or any of the content contained on those websites. Once you click links that take you to other websites, we cannot be responsible for the privacy practices of such other websites. We encourage you to exercise caution and to read the privacy policy for any website that you visit. The inclusion of hyperlinks to third-party websites on our Sites in no way constitutes an endorsement by us of such websites’ content, security practices, or policies.
Information Security
New Yorkers for the Equality Model is committed to maintaining your confidence and trust, and we take reasonable security measures to protect your information, including the use of appropriate physical, technical, and administrative controls. However, no security system is impenetrable, and no transmission or electronic storage of information is guaranteed to be secure. We therefore urge you to always use caution when transmitting information over the Internet.
Children’s Information
The Site is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect or store any personal information about children under 13 years of age through the Site, unless provided by a parent, guardian, or other adult seeking our services on behalf of a child.
International Transfers
We are based in New York in the United States. The information you submit to us and that we automatically collect as a result of your using the Site will be transferred to the United States, where the privacy and data protection rules may differ from those in your country. By using our Site, you consent to the international transfer to, and storage of, your personal information in the United States.
Your California Privacy Rights
California’s “Shine the Light” law permits residents of California to annually request and obtain information free of charge about what personal information is disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes in the preceding calendar year. We do not disclose your personal information to third parties for the third parties’ own direct marketing purposes.
We May Change this Notice
From time to time, we may change our privacy practices, and this Privacy Policy, because of changes in relevant and applicable legal or regulatory requirements, our business practices, or in our attempts to better serve your needs and those of our other customers. Notice of such changes to our privacy practices will be given in the manner described in the Terms and Conditions of Use and a revised Privacy Policy will be posted on the Site.
